A sterling silver large footed bowl by Tiffany & Co.. This is an exceptional example of a sterling silver bowl as one is likely to find. Simple in design, so as to not complicate the home setting, but masterfully made. As is quite typical from Tiffany during this period, the style is quite reserved except for gorgeously Art Deco stylized floral feet, four of which, which support the bowl. The ancient Palmette design motif was frequently used to crown the tops of Egyptian and Grecian temples. From the base of these feet a very simple reeding runs through the silver to the rim. A very thick gauge of sterling is used throughout, and presented in exceptional condition. This bowl could fit comfortably into even the most modern and paired down of homes.
On the base is a wonderful full set of Tiffany & Co. marks with reference number 23239. The bowl was made circa 1947 when this pattern was introduced. The director's letter “M” for Louis deBebian Moore (1947-56) whom the company was under the stewardship of during this time.
The condition perfect throughout. It is ready to be used, clean both inside and out. This is a wonderful center piece for a dining table, or for a large side table or coffee table. The bowl weighs over forty troy ounces, and so has a great presence to it. The Palmette pattern was a popular design for Tiffany, and they made this bowl in a number of sizes, along with flatware and other home accessories From what we have gathered, this is the largest size they made at ten and half inches across.
Circa date of 1940's, made in America.
